Creating A New E-mail Address And Learning More About Using E-mail

An electronic mail or e-mail as it is better known, is a method for individuals to communicate with each other via the internet. Mail is circulated across the Internet by SMPT or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It was actually launched in the 80’s but has received frequent modifications. It still stands however, to be the common standard used to date. The SMPT is programmed to identify an e-mail address and in case it is unable to do so, the sender is notified of the non-existence of the email address.
An e-mail is generally opened and read via an email client which is stored in a computer. You can gain access to your emails from your personal computer by simply logging on to the email client where you can check, receive, compose and send emails from. Web mail is a simpler option of sending emails; this is down to the fact that it is placed at a central point on the internet, can be accessed through a specific web application and is far easier to use. Assuming the computer you are using has internet connection and a browser facility, you can use the web mail service anywhere.
There are various web mail service providers that offer free email services but you could choose to select a paid-for service too. To exchange messages with one another through this medium whether it is paid or for free, what we first require is an email address. This email address like any postal address identifies the area where the message has to be delivered. You can send messages as well as receiving them from this address. Various servers and networks can easily identify a specific location as the email address displays this information.
Emails have an attribute that is common in all email addresses across the web. Email addresses all have a set format. See the example shown; susie@Yahoo.co.uk. The example shows your first name, followed by the ‘@’ (at) symbol, then the host name, which can be Google, Yahoo, Hotmail etc, and then lastly a three letter abbreviation which usually is co.uk. or com, or ac.uk .com, .gov, .edu, .com and so on. These features remain practically unchanged, making it easy for you to form an email address for yourself.
However there are certain limitations as to what you can do while creating an email address for yourself. It is more common for lower case letters to be used than upper case, but because it is not case sensitive upper charactes can be used. Users should be aware however, that this must not exceed sixty-five characters. You should be aware that if you start including other characters into the address, then this can make it very difficult to idenitfy. In this sense, it is advised not to use them. The symbol that separates the user and domain name apart is the ‘at’ symbol. Due to the fact you can only use letters, numbers and the hyphen symbol, the domain name is a bit more limited.

But the author doesn’t remain in the spotlight. Poor Richard’s E-Mail Publishing includes a series of chapters authored by leaders of other e-mail communities, including the Naked PC Newsletter, the LangaList, and This Is True.
The book doesn’t promise that your e-mail newsletter will make you rich–Pirillo opines that the medium isn’t yet mature enough to generate much more than a modest income for most publishers. However, he describes a medium on the verge of profitability and tells his readers how to give their lists maximum business appeal. He advises readers to make top-quality content their first priority, build brand names, and provide excellent customer service. Perhaps most important, the book explains the difference between spam and legitimate mass mailings: subscribers have absolute control over legitimate mailings, and their information is never used behind their backs.

4 Stars The definitive guide to e-mail publishing
An interesting book. Chris Pirillo discusses publishing an e-mail newsletter, or e-zine. In fact, he covers it almost completely. The only problem I had with this book was the author’s incomplete and sometimes rambling discussion of configuring an e-mail account for your mailing list. I had to look elsewhere (online) to understand this. To his credit, it is difficult to understand.
Other than that, this book is a fabulous introduction to e-mail publishing and will give the reader many good ideas and tips on publishing online.
1 Star Don’t throw away your money
This is truly a terrible book - very thin on usable content. Further, the author, Chris Pirillo, writes like a high school “valley girl.” It is a prime example that the Internet allows anyone - despite how dumb they are - to venture, and in this case, publish their opinions. Don’t waste you money. And for the author, become a cheerleader!

You could spend months in the school of hard knocks learning what you need to know to publish an email newsletter….but why would you?!?
This book has the type of detailed up-to-the-second information that will save you a lot of trouble.
